Here is a brief description of “Spanish for Healthcare Professionals” and its instructor

  • Day and time: Wednesdays 7pm to 9pm  
  • Duration:  8 weeks

  
This is a short, interactive, and effective course appropriate for intermediate-level Spanish speakers looking for a class that teaches Spanish with emphasis on medical terminology. The main purpose of this class is to provide tools and techniques needed to increase students’ effectiveness in communicating with Spanish-speaking clients, patients, and co-workers. The main topics of this course are: greeting, managing emergency situations, anatomy, common diseases, guidelines for obtaining a medical history, working with interpreters, and understanding different cultures and beliefs related to medical care. This course is for a wide range of working or future medical professionals such as nurses, therapists, physicians, psychologists, counselors, and administrative staff. The textbook is not included in the price of the course, however the book costs less than $20 and the dictionary is optional yet recommended as a practical tool for all bilingual healthcare workers.

    About the instructor: Jennifer Figueira, CMI has been working in the foreign language field for over 20 years, teaching, translating and interpreting. She is a U.S. Board Certified Medical Interpreter, Conference Interpreter, and Certified Court Interpreter in several states. She is a member of several professional associations including those listed to the right. Mrs. Figueira has been a Spanish instructor at DelTech since 2003 and offers seminars and training sessions in corporate and community settings. Mrs. Figueira is a pleasant and highly skilled instructor that blends many different teaching methodologies, making every class valuable and entertaining.
